Teddy the Labradoodle on the Road to Remission with Targeted Active Therapy

Teddy, a five-year-old Labradoodle, could barely manage more than a few steps before his muscles gave way to fatigue. Diagnosed with myasthenia gravis just ten days earlier, he had been started on pyridostigmine, one of the current standard treatments for the disease. Despite this, muscle weakness persisted and was only temporarily alleviated following immunoadsorption therapy.

Hoping to see his condition improve, Teddy’s owners agreed to enroll him in a compassionate use of CuraVac’s experimental treatment based on its Targeted Active Therapy (TAT) platform. The protocol was carried out under the supervision of Professor Andrea Fischer at the Small Animal Clinic of Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich.

Teddy received three injections of CV-MG01, with no adverse effects reported. Over the following weeks, he gradually regained strength, in line with the positive clinical and physiological signs observed by the veterinary team.

Six weeks after his first injection, Teddy was back enjoying long walks, covering four kilometers without showing any signs of weakness. He is currently undergoing a gradual withdrawal from pyridostigmine under veterinary supervision.

This administration represents the second compassionate-use case of CV-MG01 in a dog. In 2024, Uto, a Golden Retriever suffering from a severe form of myasthenia gravis, achieved complete remission six weeks after receiving three doses of the treatment. More than two years after completing therapy, he has experienced no relapse.
