CuraVac’s Canine Myasthenia Gravis Treatment Has Sufficient Efficacy Data
The European Medicines Agency (EMA) sends out a positive signal to CuraVac as it recognizes the efficacy data for its Canine Myasthenia Gravis treatment, CV-MG01, as sufficient to support a veterinary Marketing Authorization Application. The last step before submitting the application is now clear.
Earlier this summer, CuraVac received news that further supports its objective of entering the veterinary market by 2028. In a scientific advice report issued in July 2026, the Committee for Veterinary Medicinal Products of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) agrees that the efficacy data collected to date are sufficient to support a veterinary Marketing Authorization application for CV-MG01, its treatment candidate for Canine Myasthenia Gravis.
Final step before launch
The announcement was enthusiastically welcomed by the CuraVac team, which has already started preparing the final step on the pathway for its canine therapy before submitting the veterinary Marketing Authorization Application. With no further demonstration of efficacy required, the remaining work will focus primarily on manufacturing the product and ensure compliance with the established protocol and manufacturing standards.
Efficacy demonstrated over time
Managing to achieve enough efficacy evidence to support an EMA application so soon after launching the veterinary unit may certainly seem surprising at first. As the saying goes, “Rome wasn’t built in a day.” The foundations that now make the potential commercialization of a canine treatment possible have been in place for many years.
In the 1990s, initial studies were already examining the effects of complementary peptides in pet dogs with naturally occurring Myasthenia Gravis. The results were published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal in 2007 which in summary reported a 75% remission rate in a mean time of 2.4 months in a cohort of 20 pet dogs. CuraVac’s subsequent progress in developing a treatment candidate for human use, together with its initiatives of compassionate use involving CV-MG01, acted as additional proofs of efficacy for the MG Targeted Active Therapeutic formulation.
CuraVac is currently leading a funding round to finance the upcoming production and validation of a commercial veterinary batch of its MG treatment for the veterinary market.
