CuraVac is a company that has been created to develop the medical and commercial potential of a patented technique for the production of therapeutic vaccines for the treatment of autoimmune diseases. CuraVac, Inc was founded in Delaware, USA in January 2002. The following year CuraVac Europe SPRL was founded in Belgium.
Dr. Stéphane Huberty, MD is the CEO and has a proven business record as a manager and entrepreneur over the last 20 years. CuraVac is focused on bringing new vaccine strategies developed by Prof. J. Edwin Blalock of the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) to the market.
CuraVac owns the patented production technique for the vaccines. The first vaccine is also patented by CuraVac and ready for Phase 1A human trials.
This vaccine is the first in a series. It will be tested on humans suffering from the orphan disease Myasthenia Gravis (MG). While not widely known, MG affects one in five to seven thousand (there are about 200,000 diagnosed cases with 15,000 new cases each year in USA, Europe and Japan). MG pathology is clearly understood and the curative action of our vaccine can easily be assessed in a simple blood test making it an excellent development model. Based on the price of current treatments, the market for the MG therapeutic vaccine is estimated to be in the range of EUR 5 billion (5 bn €).
Further CuraVac therapeutic vaccines will be developed for the treatment of other autoimmune diseases, including Multiple Sclerosis (MS, 15/10,000, a potential market of 50 bn €), Diabetes (75/10,000, a potential market of 5 bn € / year). Autoimmune diseases afflict 5 % of the population, a market well over 500 bn €.
Beside the human aspects of helping to cure several autoimmune diseases, investors can expect high return on investment.
